The 4th FIDE World Chess Championship for Players with Disabilities starts today with nine(9) Malaysian hopefuls entering the event. Hosted by Germany’s Dresdner Schachfestival e.V., the event is scheduled from 4th November (with Opening Ceremony) until 14th November (for Awards Ceremony) with only a single round of play to be contested each day from 5th to 13th November 2021.

Malaysians playing in the event are Loo Pin Xie and Siti Safura Jaafar who recently won the LIONS Online International Chess Championship 2021, Lim Yee Jin, Mohd Johar Johari, Amerullah Muda, Saiful Azham Othman, Mohd Azanni Ahmad, Muhammad Idris Mohd Ibrahim and Sabahan Ardian Syah Muming. The Head of Delegation and Team Manager for the Malaysian Contingent is Muhammad Khairi Jansar of Melaka.

A total of 255 players from 46 countries have signed up to take part in the event with India leading the number of players at 24, followed by Russia (17) and Turkey (16). Some of the more notable players taking part are GM Tazbir Marcin of Poland, IM Yarmonov Igor of Ukraine, FM Molenda Marcin also from Poland, FM Babarykin Stanislav of Russia and FM Severino Sander of the Philippines.

All rounds will start daily at 12:00pm UTC (about 8:00pm Malaysia) starting from tomorrow 5th November 2021. For today, the 12:00pm schedule will start with Technical Meeting and Players briefing. The final rounds will be played on Saturday, 13th November 2021 with the closing ceremony to follow the next day.
