Team Malaysia continue its fine run to record three more victories on the Day 2 of their Online Olympiad Campaign in Division 3 Pool A encounters. To date – after 6 rounds of play, Team Malaysia recorded a perfect 12 match points to lead the pool with South Korea and Sri Lanka a distant second with 9 match points in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

With three more rounds to be played today – against Thailand, South Korea and IPCA Team, a win in one of the remaining rounds should be enough to promote Malaysia to the Division 2 qualifying rounds which will be played next weekend. So far, Malaysia ladies were very impressive clocking only a single loss with WFM Puteri Rifqah and Chua Jia-Tien recording perfect scores of 6/6 and 5/5 respectively. Nurul Akma Quzaina also scored a perfect score recording a single win from her single appearance on Friday. Team results for the Malaysian players at the Olympiad can be found at http://chess-results.com/tnr575555.aspx?lan=1&art=1&flag=30 while news on the performance of the other Pools in the Division can be found at https://onlineolympiad.fide.com/tpost/ralixht951-venezuela-dominates-in-division-3

On the other hand, WCM Sim Jia Ru fine run at the Cadets & Youth Championship was stopped at the hands of Vietnamese lass WCM Nguyen Hong Nhung in their Semi Final clash last night. All is not lost as WCM Sim Jia Ru will still be able to make it up for her loss in her 3rd/4th place clash to be played tonight where she will meet WFM Balabayeva Xeniya of Kazakhstan to secure the last podium spot. Whatever the result maybe, it was an impressive run by our National Junior girl and we hope that her achievement will inspire many more young chess players to follow her footsteps towards achieving world glory.
