After two(2) successful editions of the MCF National Training Program (NTP) which first started in Oct 2020, the 3rd NTP series is set to kick off by 20th June 2022.

Headed by MCF Head Coach FM Sumant Subramaniam, a few new names have been added to the coaching staff for this year’s edition. While IM Yeoh Li Tian, IM Jimmy Liew, and NM Marcus Chan continue to provide their expertise for the trainees, new names like IM Mok Tze Meng, and Herosifu Mohd Ezmi Mahmood, have been invited to broaden the scope and add more colors to the training program. Although GM Ziaur Rahman may not be able to join this training edition – as he had done in the previous editions, efforts are being made to find a suitable and available GM (or WGM) as a replacement that can help to add more depth to the training program. While previous NTP focuses more on the players who have already developed a certain playing level, this year’s edition will provide a basic session for beginners and those who are new to chess.

The closing date to apply is 15th June 2022 and the NTP 3.0 session is set to run for 3 months from 20th June to 20th September 2022. Less than 50 slots are available for players to apply for and for now, all classes shall be organized via online mode. While there could be a few physical face-to-face sessions organized, players will be informed of this change – if at all possible to do the physical session in view of traveling challenges faced by a few trainees, but the changes should not impact the schedule of the program.

For those who have applied for the program and are eventually selected, the fees shall be RM150 per month for Beginner and Developmental students, RM250 for invited students, and RM300 for selected students who applied via the application portal. Those with MCF ID will enjoy an RM50 discount on the monthly fees if they register before signing up for the program. Fees are payable only after the players have been selected.
