52 players took part in MCF’s first edition of the 2022 Quarterly Blitz which was held on the 17th of April 2022 over the TORNELO online playing platform. With Muhammad Saiful Asyraf at the helm of the event as its Chief Arbiter andMCF Secretary (FA) Najib Abdul Wahab acting as the Deputy Arbiter, the 11 rounds Swiss event which started at 2:30 pm with Round 1, concluded on time just before the clock struck 5:15 pm.
After the dust settled, FM Wong Yinn Long maintain his performance as the top seed for the tournament to sweep the event with a perfect 11 points out of 11 games. This is definitely a good boost for Yinn Long who will be going to Hanoi as part of Malaysia’s chess squad at the biannual sporting festival.
Another member of the SEA Games squad – Poh Yu Tian, finished in second place with a point behind having lost his encounter against Yinn Long in the earlier rounds. CM Tan Jun Ying rounded up the podium finishes with 8 points – having lost his games with Yinn Long and Yu Tian, and drawing against WCM Chua Jia Tien and Loo Pin Xie.
It was also a good turnout for another SEA Games squad member – WCM Chua Jia Tien, who ended the event in the 4th spot with 7.5 points.
A few notable performances from the event were Ava Arabella and Loo Pin Xie – both in 8th placing and 10th placing respectively.
