After doing the necessary screening and assessment from players who have shown interest to play in the first ever FIDE Online Olympiad 2020 scheduled to start on 22nd July until 30th August 2020, the following are the 12 players that have been chosen to don our National colors:

In no particular order, the players are:

  1. IM Jimmy Liew Chee Meng
  2. WIM Puteri Munajjah Az Zahraa Azhar
  3. FM Sumant Subramaniam
  4. FM Wong Yin Long
  5. FM Rohan Shan Tze Navaratnam
  6. WFM Puteri Rifqah Fahada Azhar
  7. WCM Nithyalakshmi Sivanesan
  8. WCM Goh Jie Yi
  9. WCM Chua Jia Tien
  10. WCM Sim Jia Ru
  11. Looi Xin Hao
  12. Amir Ghaazi Mohd Saprin

FM Sumant Subramaniam who is also the Chairman of the Technical Committee has been appointed as Captain for the team, while Assistant Secretary Iwan Schani Ibnu will act as the HOD and MCF point of contact for the event. For now, MCF has not decided on the Coach to be appointed for the team as it will also depend on the playing schedule that FIDE will announce.

FIDE has extended the closing date for the registration to 16th July 2020 and will announce the team seeding and the playing divisions for each country by 18th July 2020. As there are potentially more than 100 teams playing, the tournament will be divided into 4 qualifying divisions based on a country’s seeding from the combined results of each country’s Men and Women final ranking at last Olympiad in Batumi. MCF expects Malaysia to enter the event at the 3rd qualifying division which will start slightly later and once this is confirmed, the playing schedule will be much clearer for the team.

MCF CONGRATULATES the Malaysian squad and wishes them all the best in their upcoming tournament.
